What does empowerment mean? We don’t empower people by doing things for them, of course. We do it by not telling them what’s wrong, but giving them permission to shine on their own, wherever that takes them. So many folks seem to be afraid to step out and be themselves; all those family and other social voices wanting us to be what they are looking for or what society’s rules say we “should” be. I don’t like “shoulds” much. Don’t like fences, either, unless I’ve built them just in order to define who I really am. I don’t want them to be so rigid that I can’t be open to new opportunities.
I have this picture in my head of a more open mental habitat, with lovely trees and flowers, and nice places to sit and have deep conversations.
But how is it, really, inside this world of my empowerment? I don’t get lost in other people’s stuff now, but what about my own stuff that’s already in my space, stuff from the past, stuff projected into the future? Not all my trees are healthy, not all my flowers pollinated.
Empowering Your Timeline
We humans have brains that like to deal with cause and effect, past and future. We don’t like to stand still; we want to progress somewhere or somewhen; we like knowing that we come from somewhere and somewhen. But these somewheres and somewhens can also narrow our options. We can forget that life often opens from one space-time (Now) like a a lotus of many petals (dimensions). We often have to be taught to stop, to heal the past and relax into the future, by being in the present.
I know. The present is only about five seconds long, if that, and it can be, well, boring sometimes, or very painful (but that won’t last) or worrisome (but that might not come true). Or blissfully happy (but I know, that won’t last either).
Wait, the timeline just marks all these changes. Nothing is permanent, so, why hang on in our heads? Lessons learned, maybe. But once learned, the painful emotions don’t need keeping.
How about we set ourselves free to en-joy (envelope in the joy) of the present?
