It takes quite a bit of time for gravity to work material together to create a star. We’re talking millions, maybe even billions of years depending on the original conditions (amount of material available and at what density). So, time really is the essence, but gravity never hurries; it’s actually the weakest of the forces in physics, so that’s why it takes so much time to pull matter together. Of course, the universe has trillions of years of time to work with, so, no worries!
Gravity would be in the tortoise position, then, in Aesop’s race between the tortoise and the hare, but with the power to light up a solar system or suck everything around into a black hole when it finally wins. The poor hare would be in for quite a shock at the end of that race.
Turning On Our Divine Electricity
Several years ago, I was reminded of how gravity’s patience works out when I saw this cool saying from Jacob Nordby over at his Blessed Are the Weird page on Facebook. You should check out Jacob’s stuff anyway, but if you aren’t into FB, here’s the quote:
We all have this divine electricity
Jacob Nordby, Blessed are the Weird
crackling through us. It is our spark of
genius, our light. But we sit and let
the clock tick away our lives, waiting
and hoping to be discovered. Stop it!
Flip the switch any way you must. The
time to shine your light is now.
Maybe you think you haven’t accumulated enough stuff yet (spiritual workshops, meditations, vision quests, shamanic rituals, prayers, life experience, psychotherapy), but you’re wrong. I don’t care how old or young you are, you have something to contribute, some mass of intuitive wisdom that can coalesce into a shine that will benefit you and us in our orbits around our own souls. Nope, you don’t have to wait until you finish writing that book or getting that credential.
Just . . . Begin
As Jacob says, “Stop it!” Reach out right now to shine for someone or something:
Take. Just. One. Step.
Make. Just. One. Stitch.
Draw. Just. One. Line.
Write. Just. One. Phrase.
Paint. Just. One. Stroke.
Plant. Just. One. Seed.
Give. Just. One. Hug
Say. Just. One. Loving.
Word. Just. Shine.
Do it. Now.
